In 1987, after more than a decade in the world of paper products and cleaning supplies, working for some of the biggest names in the industry, John M Derby decided to set out on his own. He opened his doors for business. And by doors, we mean one single car garage door.
Emerald Island Supply’s warehouse was first located in a small garage on Evergreen Lane in Patchogue, New York while the headquarters was run by John’s father, John F Derby from his dining room table in Bellport New York. Over the years, the company grew from one to two to ten employees and continued to grow and grow. The warehouse and office merged together and took up residence in a few different locations around Eastern Long Island. Finally, in 2006 Emerald Island Supply Company built the 15,000 square foot state of the art office building and warehouse it now calls home with 16 employees at 1135 Station Road, Medford New York 11763.
